Now that we’ve been on Discourse for a couple of months and folks are getting more comfortable with it, we’d like to loosen things up a bit. So, welcome to the Weather Talk category!
Anyone can start a discussion thread in this category, and the threads won’t auto-lock after 24 hours like the daily threads in the Space City Weather and The Eyewall categories do. Want to carry on a multi-day discussion on the urban heat island effect, or the quirks of the IAH weather monitoring station (I see you, @Glenn!), or any other weather-related kind of conversation? Post 'em here! Got a question you’d like to see addressed in the monthly Q&A post? This is the place!
All discussions should be weather-related. A discussion of this year’s drought and historical rainfall patterns and outlier years would be right on-topic. Spotted a really weird cloud formation and want to talk about it? Absolutely on-topic. Want to share pictures of Venus that you took last night through a telescope? Borderline, but probably on-topic, and who doesn’t want to see astronomy pix? Got a burning need to argue about how Taylor Swift’s newest single represents an unacceptable artistic divergence from her previous work? Potentially accurate, but that one’s definitely not on-topic.
(The regular posting guidelines also apply, too—please keep those in mind. Ultimately what “on-topic” and “off-topic” means is up to @Eric and @Matt, and they’ll use their judgment when calls need to be made.)
If y’all are interested, we might also experiment with something like a “Free-For-All Friday,” where weekend threads could include things like garden photos or other lighthearted off-topic fun. We’re open to ideas from the community, so please do let us know if you have any!
