Got questions, comments, suggestions about the SCW app? The App Feedback category is for you

Are you a user of the Space City Weather app for Apple devices or Androids? (If not, you should be!) This category is just for discussing the app.

We’ve spent our development resources this year making it more stable, faster and – fingers crossed! – as bug-free as possible. Our developer, Hussain Abbasi, has released several updates for each platform and bug reports have dropped to almost nil, so :crossed_fingers:. You can learn more about our work this year here:

You’re welcome to post topics in this category with questions, feature requests, suggestions and bug reports, but for the latter, be aware that there’s a built-in bug-report feature in the app. That’s is the preferred way to let us know about a problem you encountered. Here’s how to do it:

  • In the app, tap/click on the 3-line menu in the upper left corner on the home page.
  • The city picker tray slides open. Tap/click on the gear icon at the top right to access the Settings page.
  • On the Settings page, tap/click the Send Feedback button. An email window will open pre-populated with an error-log file and details about your device.
  • Provide as much detail as you can about what you were doing in the app when you had the issue, then send that email.
  • If a bug causes the app to crash before you can get to the Feedback feature, please send an email to [email protected] with as much detail as possible, including the device your using, the version of its operating system and the version of the app, seen at the bottom of the Settings page.
  • Basic troubleshooting: Delete/reinstall the app. Sometimes a fresh install fixes a lot of problems (which is true for most apps!).

Some things to know about the app:

  • The spelling of “houmidity” is not a typo.
  • The city picker tray only holds 12 entries, so no, we cannot add your particular ‘burb at this time. That may change in the future, but the future is not here yet. In the meantime, please choose the city closest to your home.
  • The “Houston” city data is from Houston’s main NWS reporting station at IAH.
  • Our city data feeds come directly from the National Weather Service’s various area reporting stations. If one of them is down (and they occasionally are), the next nearest station’s data is used to populate that city’s info.
  • If the current conditions seem out of date, there’s a Refresh Weather Data button in the aforementioned Settings. You can also try pulling down on the home page, which may also do the trick.
  • If you have an Apple Silicon-based Mac (with an M1 chip or newer), you can install the iPhone/iPad app via the App Store.
  • The “Evacuate Katy” button in the Notifications setting really does work. Persevere.
  • And finally, for the people in the back rows, we’ll repeat: The spelling of “houmidity” is a feature, not a bug.

Thank you for using the Space City Weather app!
