Ok, forgetting the unsafe conditions that heavy Fog creates for doing any sort of travelling with modern conveyance I actually love fog. The more, the denser and the more persistent the better. I reminisce of the past when things were not so complicated because live was slower and no matter how foggy it was, as long as you have enough visibility too see the actual road beneath your feet. You could travel.
In the south having lived here 90% of my life it is, to me, like southern snow! Everything is quiet but not as cold as snow. It wraps you into an intimate, quiet, and comforting blanket. Time stands still. All is as quiet as a recent snowfall except most of the time you’re not freezing your arse off!!
When I was young a telephone pole sneaked up on my car in the fog when I was delivering papers one morning and left a dent in my front bumper. Although I was too young to drink in the final seconds before that pole assaulted me I noted it was weaving around in the road so I really should have reported that pole for public intoxication because I suspect it was definitely under the influence!
I would have seen it sneak up on me except the paper route didn’t net enough money to buy night vision goggles in the early ‘80s LOL
On a more serious note. When it is really foggy and I must drive I do so during midday using polarized glasses because that gives me enough visibility to drive safely. I learned one thing when I was in AZ and it’s sandstorms that it is a good idea when visibility goes to zero if you pull over its best to turn your lights off and keep foot off the brakes because your taillights will attract other cars to think you are moving and because of the lack of depth perception the cars on the road will drive right into you thinking you are on the road and moving. They realize too late that you are actually stationary. And wham bam crash you go! It seems counterintuitive.
