As someone who has had family here since the 19th century and has a street named after us downtown. You are wrong. You don’t get to speak for us.
(Quick mid-thread apology for anyone getting their posts flagged as spam today—the anti-spam bot is being particularly aggressive this AM, perhaps because it too doesn’t like the heat and hou-midity. We’re keeping an eye on it and un-flagging legit posts, hopefully within just a few seconds!)
“Don’t you know who I am?”
Eric, thank you for the laugh this morning. Very rarely do people seem to know how to use the phrase “Bless your hearts”. This morning my other half and I were reading the post and both of us started giggling when we read your response. I certainly hope the other readers appreciated your response. It made our morning.
And as a 69 (almost 70) year old native Houstonian, getting through the months of June and July and the anticipation of September give us the right to comment annually about August being the most dreaded month of summer here….Thank you for the great job the Space City Weather team does, we couldn’t get through the 2.375 seasons of Houston weather without y’all.
@Joseph Last night for me the temperature was in the 70’s from the rain cooled air and not very humid. This morning it was 73°F and not very humid.
Bless his little ol heart..Amen to that.. ,Being a Houstonian for 70+ years, we don’t claim to have weather that rivals .., the California climate.., It’s our Texas by birth right to complain about the August weather..period.., I have been thru a lot of wicked and wild stuff all my life, so many hurricanes, tropical storms, and arctic blast that can turn you into a popsicle in hours.., so lighten up Francis. The most overused appliance in my house, was the manual thermostat that would be switched to heat in the morning, over to AC in the afternoon, and back to heat that night.. Thanks for the laughs today on this complaint from a newbie.., apparently.., they haven’t experienced all the seasons in the same 24 hour Period .., just yet. Bless their little ol heart indeed.. today is a good day for some TexMex dinner.. adíos
Maybe it’s Bob Louisiana! Or possibly Fred Commerce!
My money is on..Mr Smith..
I’ve lived here for almost 60 years, and don’t have a problem with people complaining. But this summer has been fairly mild for the most part. A few times i’ve been outside and thought, “hey this isn’t too bad for end of july” or whatever. Mid 90s at the end of august? I’ll take it. And my family has a few streets named after various relatives in Edna, so take that.
This is only August complaining, just wait till September!
The idea that true Texans / Houstonians don’t complain about the heat is hilarious for anyone who is a true Texan / Houstonian. I’ve known 5 generations of them so far and that’s most of what we do until the end of September. “Mornin!” “Mornin"!” “Damn heat’s gonna kill my [plant name]!” “Killed mine last year!” Smile and go about your day. “Damn heat” is the correct way to signal your bona fides.
I’d be willing to bet good money that the feedbacker’s grandfather wasn’t from Houston.
Beautiful 76 this morning. Nothing to complain about. Love the 90s on a wonderful August day too! Enjoy folks
I’m from the northeast and the weather here depresses me. Hate the lack of real seasons and the summers here make me stir-crazy even after almost a decade of living here! Having young kids, it’s even worse now. However, there are many redeeming things about Houston: the diversity, the friendliness of people, the restaurants, the relative affordability. Still, I need to complain about the weather sometimes to keep myself sane. And yeah, I am a transplant. Sue me. Truth is, this city would not be nearly as awesome without a healthy mix of locals AND transplants! And Eric, keep on keepin’ on. I like to live vicariously through your complaints!
“Anyone more recent is a carpetbagger, and there are way too many here in our great city and state”
Is that a complaint?
or Sam Jacinto perhaps!
I still have to click two links and scroll through the article 3 times to write a response. Maybe I’m missing something?
- Go to spacecityweather.com. Scroll to bottom of article, click “leave a comment.”
- Scroll to bottom of article again, scroll past comments, click “continue the discussion”.
- Scroll through the entire article and all of the comments AGAIN, click reply button, finally start writing my reply.
There’s got to be a better way.
Does this post count as one of your two complaints for the year?
That’s….definitely not supposed to be happening, unless I’m misreading (which is definitely possible!). If you’re seeing the old Wordpress “leave a comment” form, something isn’t right. If that’s the case, clear your browser’s cache and reload Space City Weather. If you’re still seeing it after that, please create a new post in Forum Feedback so I can reply with some more detailed troubleshooting steps.
Regardless, there are a few ways to visit the comments, but if you’re starting at a SCW or Eyewall post, the procedure should be:
-
Scroll to the bottom of the article. There should be either a “Start the Discussion at….” link if no one has yet left any comments, or some comments and a “Continue the discussion at…” link. Either way, clicking the link will take you to that article’s thread here on Discourse.
-
If it’s your first time visiting that particular thread, you’ll start out at the top; scroll to the bottom and hit “reply.” (Or reply to an existing comment if one catches your fancy.)
-
If it’s not your first time visiting that particular thread, you should wind up where you last left off, with new comments below your arrival point waiting to be read.
Alternately, you can bookmark the SCW discourse front page and stay parked there; any new comments to any discussion thread will show up live. (This is what I’m usually doing, so i can see new comments instantly.)
This is probably what I will do.
Check with me the next time SCW decides to voice any opinions on anything whatsoever. K THX BYE!!
P.S.: Houston summers are horrible. I should know, I’ve been through 46 of them.
