Boring weather continues for August, and that's just fine. In fact, it's ideal

test, trying out first time on here

This is the best version of me. Boring, but stable!

The test worked—you’re here

I’ll take it! I feel like the universe owes us a boring summer, weather-wise.

I had almost that exact experience yesterday. Usual drive home is about 15 minutes.

We had such a beautiful spring that I kept saying, “We will pay for this during Summer.”

I know that we are still holding our breath through hurricane season, but imagine we make it through without any major ones? And then imagine we get an actually chilly Halloween? Here’s to hoping!

The forecasted afternoon temperatures are not bad at all for being almost mid-August :+1:

New to the Discourse site. Not a big deal but the replies to comments are threaded, but also put the reply as it’s own comment lower down. Is that normal on this site? It’s a little confusing

Yep, it’s kind of a pseudo-threaded format. Posts are displayed in chronological order, but if you reply to a post, your post is marked as a reply and you get a little doodad you can click on at the top to show the post you’re replying to (and to navigate back to it, if you like).

I tend to not like threaded discussion setups because they silo and isolate different parts of the conversation; Discourse tries to take a “best of both worlds” approach and show comments chronologically with some basic threading bolted on.

Can we start feeling optimistic about a mid september fall front?

First post here. I have found that boring is just fine with me. My morning walks have been pretty nice compared to past years where temps and humidity have made the real feel unbearable.

Thanks for sticking with us, @Wgeiser. Glad you made it over here. And I definitely hear you re: morning walk temperatures—I’m usually out there at about 5:30am or so, and it hasn’t been awful this year.

Still trying to get used to this, which I will eventually. I’m trying to figure out how to read the comments, go away for awhile and then come back and see what’s posted since then without having to rescroll through what I already read.

Yep, it can be a little weird, but Discourse tries to help you out. If you come back to a comment thread after being away, it should put you right back where you left off, and you should see a red “last visit” line demarcating your last-read point. Like this:

Reply to Wgeiser: I absolutely agree with you. I was just mentioning how the morning lows in my neck of the woods (Jersey Village) have comparatively been pretty decent, mostly in the 73°F-76°F range and nothing 80°F or above. And the daytime highs, especially compared to 2023 and 2024, have been pretty decent. I was actually surprised at the graph the other day that showed 2025 had the seventh (I think it was seventh) worst June and July all time.

Thank you! I’m sure it’s just me getting used to it more than anything.

Pro-tip — if you want to mention another person, put a @ in front of their name, and they’ll get a notification that you’ve mentioned them! Like this: @richbeat and @Wgeiser :+1:

Also, anyone who you directly reply to (exactly like you did!) will automatically get a notification that you’ve replied, merely by you creating a reply—no need to explicitly mention them unless you just want to do so for clarity.

You’re basically a Discourse expert at this point!

@lee There you go. Thank you for that.

Thanks for explaining how one part of Houston can get more rain and that lowers their average temperature if that happens for a number of days in the summer. As someone that has lived in Houston for almost 50 years, this summer has been one of the mildest…but we have had rain on the west side of Houston almost every day. Thanks for that great explanation although I know we still have most of August and September ahead of us!
